2) Centennial Beach
Captain Joseph Naper found the forested banks of the meandering DuPage River in 1831 while traveling from Ohio to the west. This was Naperville’s inaugural event.
George Martin was the first person to utilize the area today known as Centennial Beach. On the outskirts of the town, he first began digging for limestone in 1833. Today’s architecture still extensively uses limestone for many of the town’s foundations.
The area now known as Centennial Beach was being quarried until 1913 when water from underground natural springs started seeping in.
On a typical hot summer day, roughly 2,500 people visit Centennial Beach. The beach attracts roughly 155,000 visitors every year. The beach is known for its nationally-ranked lifeguard team and hosts several athletic competitions.

To the west of Centennial Beach is a skatepark. This facility features half-pipes, quarter-pipes, fun boxes, rails, and other skating features. Non-motorized skateboards, in-line skates, and scooters are welcome at this skate park, which is unattended and free.
A pool safety rope at Centennial Beach blocks access to the deep end, which has severe swimming requirements. A bracelet is given to those who pass the deep-water exam. To qualify, a swimmer must complete 100 uninterrupted yards of swimming.

4) Whalon Lake Preserve
Previously a quarry, Whalon Lake is now a public lake. Currently, Will County’s Forest Preserve District is in charge of managing the lake.
The lake has a surface size of around 81 acres (33 ha), an average depth of 15 feet (4.6 m), and a coastline length of 1.5 miles. It is situated among wetlands close to the DuPage River (2.4 km). There are 266 acres in the preserve (108 ha).
This lake was considered one of Will County’s biggest gems at that time.

Both islands in the southeast corner of the impoundment have natural and artificial environments. Bank fishing is permitted along the beach, and fishermen with special needs can reach the pier without obstacles.

In 1987-1988 this museum was built in a van. It was opened in 2001 in Naperville. The permanent home of the DuPage Children’s Museum in Naperville was established, greatly enhancing its capacity to assist youngsters and families in the neighborhood.

8) Naper Settlement
Through a management agreement with the City of Naperville, the Naperville Heritage Society, whose goal is to “document, preserve and interpret the community life of Naperville, Illinois, including, but not limited to the social, political and business history,” is in charge of managing Naper Settlement, which was founded in 1969.
On 13 acres that were formerly a part of the George Martin estate, Naper Settlement is situated. The mansion and gardens were previously known as “Pine Craig” since the location was historically home to pine trees.
The two original structures on the property were a mansion from 1883 and a carriage house thoroughly repaired between 2000 and 2003.

9) Springbrook Prairie Forest
The 1,832-acre Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve in Naperville, which was originally intended to house a 200-acre lake with a beach and a ground for camping, is one of the state’s three attractive parks for bird variety and is the place for creatures like American oriole, Emberiza Townsend, yellow-winged sparrows, woodcocks, and Ricebirds as well as susceptible northern assaulters and the marsh owl.
Along the named Spring Brook, a nomadic runnel has produced bends and become a broader, shallower bank. These modifications have improved water life and made it easier for the rivulet to readily spill over its edges and into the ponds after heavy rains, providing local homes with a vital flood defense point.
The greatest grassland in DuPage County is Springbrook Prairie, which also features one of the region’s cleanest streams.

The trails here are spectacular. Excellent for cycling, running, and in certain places, even cross-country skiing or equestrian riding. To make passing simple, the main paths are paved and broad.
This is a good area to train if you are preparing for a half-marathon or marathon because the entire “loop” is 5.5 miles long.

11) Dupage River Trail
The Forest Preserve District collaborates with 12 other organizations to build the DuPage River Trail. After a 40-mile journey into DuPage County, the path will reach Channahon in the north.
The 8.64-mile route contains three sections built by the Forest Preserve District. The 4.1-mile section of the DuPage River Path that runs through Hammel Woods is a rugged, paved linear trail.

The new (as of 2014) nature center enhances one of Naperville’s most lovely locations, Knoch Knolls. On a wet afternoon, we went and liked all the interactive displays!

James Nichols passed away on August 18, 1895. 19) Greene Valley
One of the country’s most botanically varied places is the 1,389-acre Greene Valley Forest conserves the site for many plant species. Its sky-high tall panoramic overlook offers a birds-eye perspective of the surroundings and the Chicago horizon on weekends from May through October.

20) Mcdowell Grove
The 439-acre (178-hectare) McDowell Grove Forest Preserve is a preserve on the West Branch of the DuPage River near Naperville, Illinois.
The DuPage County Forest Preserve District acquired this preserve’s initial property block from Alexander McDowell in 1930. This initial parcel included 62 acres and bordered the DuPage River’s West Branch.
Naperville’s Forest Preserve offers fishing options and draws shorebirds and wildlife like egrets and great blue herons.
